RADARTM
Remote Automated Detection and Reporting
RADARTM is SICOM’s out-of-band monitoring solution, stationed in your Comms Room or Data Centre. It continuously checks the condition of the fibres in your cables every few seconds. By comparing the current losses on the monitored fibre to a "fingerprint" recorded during installation, it can quickly identify any attenuation incidents, such as fiber bends or breaks.
Additionally, it integrates with our mapping system, which is set up when we assume network support, allowing us to pinpoint the exact location of any faults.
How Does it Work Questions and Answers
Q: What about my current fibre provider/maintainer?
A: You may own the fibre or have an exclusive-use lease but, either way, RADAR can be incorporated as part of your own service and doesn’t need permission from anyone else.
Q: How do you know where the problem is?
A: As part of the installation we map the fibres in your network to our inbuilt GIS system. We know the length of the fibre and plot key points in the route to build a fibre map.
Q: I’m using all the fibres into some of the buildings – so I have no spares for RADAR.
A: That’s OK, RADAR uses detection waves in the 1650nm bandwidth which don’t affect the live data. We’ll just agree a planned maintenance window while we install a coupler on the live fibres in your Data Centres.
Q: Do I still call my fibre maintainer if we have a fault?
A: Yes, but now you can tell them exactly where the fault is and get it rectified quickly without SLA issues.
Benefits of Total Support
We can collaborate with your IT team to determine whether the issue is related to the fibre or not. Our team can quickly pinpoint the location of the problem, enabling on-site staff to address and restore service without delay. If the fault is found between buildings, we can assess whether it lies in a chamber, joint, or underground duct and send the appropriate repair team to assist. This approach ensures quicker fault identification and faster repairs.
Total Support is offered at no cost for larger networks that have long-term support agreements.
Total Sensing and Security
24x7 support: Immediate alerts for fibre faults, interference, damage, and breaks ensure that issues caused by third parties are more easily identified, allowing for them to be held accountable and charged for the necessary repairs.
Real-time Automatic Detection Reporting: Tracing internal faults, bends, trapped leads etc. that can be rectified quickly.
Monitor spare or live fibres in cables: Use a spare or live single fibre to track what’s happening to the cable.
Monitor live fibres out-of-band: Individual fibres carrying traffic can be monitored too, without affecting the traffic on the network.
In-house systems and client fibres: In-house security networks can be monitored as well as fibres used for internal and external networks.
